Jan 26, 2014 Warehousing Ireland News Comments Off on Dixon’s Logistics Director Shares his ‘Know-How’
Logistics staff and students were delighted this to welcome Tim Allinson, Logistics Director of Dixons Retail to the University of Huddersfield in December. Dixons, which operates under brands ‘PCWorld’, ‘Currys’ and ‘KNOWHOW’ in the UK & Ireland, are Europe’s largest specialist electrical retailing and services company.
Tim gave an excellent lecture on the contribution of logistics to the business strategy of his company, describing how the network has developed as e-retail takes an increased market share. He also shared his thoughts on successful leadership.
The lecture commenced with an ice-breaker quiz, with the winning student walking away with an HP tablet as a prize.
“Dixons Retail is one of 22 companies sponsoring the NOVUS Trust Supply Chain Undergraduate Scheme – an innovative programme that guarantees graduate employment to students on successful completion of a BSc (Hons) in Logistics & Supply Chain Management at the University of Huddersfield,” explained Andy Kaye chair of the Novus Trust Steering Committee and CEO and founder of recruitment and business consultancy BiS Henderson. “Students are also guaranteed work experience, a 12 month placement and benefit from an industry mentor throughout their studies – Tim Allinson is acting as mentor to first year student Alex Heard.”
David Leach, Senior Lecturer and NOVUS Programme Leader commented: “Working with the NOVUS Trust is benefitting all our students – giving them opportunities to meet and learn from industry leaders. We are really appreciative of the support for our logistics courses provided by leading companies such as Dixons Retail.”
Applications for 2014 entry to the NOVUS BSc (Hons) in Logistics & Supply Chain Management at the University of Huddersfield remain open – see www.novus.uk.com for details.
