Yodel, the UK’s leading parcel delivery company, has won a prestigious gold achievement award from RoSPA.
The achievement award was presented to Yodel Transport Limited by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), a safety charity, which launched its awards programme 55 years ago.
Yodel Transport Limited, which was formed earlier this year to bring together Yodel’s considerable HGV driver base and fleet, has 1,500 employees, operating nearly 1,800 trailers and 570 tractor units. It is responsible for the collection, sortation and distribution of approximately 200 million parcels a year between Yodel’s sort and service centres.
A number of measures including extensive risk assessment, regular training, monitoring and close liaison between the health and safety team and Yodel’s sites, have seen the rate of reportable three day injuries fall by more than 41% in just twelve months.
The achievement awards are based on each organisation’s occupational health and safety performance assessed against the judging criteria and marked at merit, bronze, silver and gold levels.
Entrants must provide evidence of a good health and safety management system by answering key performance questions and supporting the answers with a concise portfolio of relevant documentation. The scheme looks not only at accident records, but also entrants’ overarching health and safety management systems, including important practices such as strong leadership and workforce involvement.
Commenting on the award, David Rawlins, RoSPA’s awards manager said; “RoSPA firmly believes that organisations that have demonstrated their commitment to continuous improvement in accident and ill health prevention deserve recognition. Yodel Transport has shown that it is committed to striving for such continuous improvement and we are delighted to honour it through the presentation of this award.”
Jamie Stephenson, managing director, Yodel Transport Limited added; “I am delighted that we have achieved this prestigious accolade from RoSPA for our approach to health and safety management. Ensuring the safety of our colleagues, our clients and the public is paramount and is the responsibility of everyone at Yodel Transport. This official award signals that we are getting it right and is a credit to the colleagues who have worked tirelessly to get us here.”
