Feb 02, 2014 Warehousing Ireland News, Noticeboard Comments Off on Seminar on choosing the right warehouse IT & advice on pay-back times
Proteus Software and TouchStar Technologies – suppliers of warehouse management systems (WMS) and mobile computing solutions to the supply chain sector – are hosting a FREE seminar that aims to guide warehouse operators through the key criteria to consider when selecting a WMS and demonstrate how a system’s return on investment time can be accurately calculated.
The event, which takes place at Proteus’s Birmingham offices on March 5th 2014, will feature keynote presentations and a panel discussion in the morning and, following a buffet lunch, the afternoon session will combine further presentations and a demonstration of the Proteus/TouchStar Cost Benefit Analysis Grid – a methodology that allows warehouse operators to quickly define the most cost efficient type of WMS for their business.
“The WMS that is right for a warehouse or distribution centre operation will be influenced by a host of factors – including the picking methodology employed, the frequency of picks and the size of the operation,” says Linda Rodway, market development manager at Proteus Software.
She continues: “WMS can be delivered to work with paper-based picking systems, voice technology and RF devices. Potential WMS adopters might, on the face of it, think that a paper-based WMS represents the cheapest option. However, careful analysis of the company’s operation and intralogistics processes will often highlight that, for example, RF Scanning – although initially requiring a greater investment – will deliver a complete ROI within 18-24 months or, in many cases, less.”
“Our Cost Benefit Analysis Grid provides an accurate timescale of when a system will pay for itself and takes into account factors such as operational efficiency gains made and reductions in labour costs. It also provides full visibility of the detailed calculations.”
Karen Taylor, TouchStar Technologies’ marketing executive, comments: “Investment in a Warehouse Management System and the right provider is not a decision to be undertaken lightly. Ideally you need to ensure that you are working with technology partners that can not only provide the right system for your current needs, but also make sure that your investment is protected and your strategic growth plans are taken into consideration from the very beginning.”
The forthcoming Proteus/TouchStar WMS efficiency seminar is free to attend and further details are available from Linda Rodway, Proteus Software Ltd. Tel: +44 (0) 121 717 7474 Email:lindar@proteussoftware.com
