Apelson Appliances UK, the international wholesaler of white goods, kitchen appliances and fittings, has taken a ten-year lease from family-run commercial property specialist, Onward Holdings. Apelson are moving to a sustainably refurbished warehouse at Good Hope Close, located within half a mile of Junction 31 of the M62 on the popular Normanton Industrial Estate in Wakefield.

The UK based appliances specialist is relocating into the 63,980 sq ft multi-purpose warehouse to facilitate the expansion of its operations and to meet increased demand. Apelson will predominantly use the warehouse for the distribution of white goods including kitchen hoods, hobs and other spare parts. Additionally, Apelson’s office function will be incorporated into the unit.

Onward acquired the former Tri-Wire manufacturing site in 2022 and proceeded to extensively renovate the property to create a high-quality modern warehouse with associated two storey offices.  Works included adding a statement double height glazed entrance wall with balcony, brand new cladding to the roof and elevations, and a new concrete floor. The car park has been extended and fitted with EV charging points to improve the buildings ESG credentials. Furthermore, a lift has been installed to improve accessibility to first-floor areas.

Apelson Appliances UK’s Head of Finance, Mark Johnson, said: “We were aware of Onward Holdings’ positive reputation from other premises they manage in the area. The team were very communicative and worked together with us on this journey to provide us with the ideal property to align with our future operations. The warehouse has no internal columns and a maximum apex height of 11 metres, allowing the business to optimise our internal storage needs. We are very happy with the final deal.”

The ten-year lease secures both companies’ outputs against the background of continuing economic uncertainty. Iain McPhail of Knight Frank who worked alongside Andrew Miller Chartered Surveyors of Sheffield to secure the letting commented “Onward Holdings have made another significant investment in the West Yorkshire industrial property market by creating a premium, occupier-facing and dedicated distribution unit.”

Onward Holdings supplies logistics facilities for storage and distribution across Yorkshire, including 3PL managed warehousing, pallet storage, container emptying, order picking and reworking. The company has also successfully expanded its portfolio into retail parks building Onyx Retail Park at the old Manvers Colliery site in Wath Upon Dearne.
