  • Warehouses are overspending around £190 million on energy a year, according to research from the Energy Efficiency Financing (EEF) scheme. Based on official sources and EEF data, the study examined a group of sectors to calculate the amount different industries were overpaying on their energy bills. “Our analysis has shown that there is a huge market potential for energy savings from business investment in energy-efficient equipment, amounting to over £3.7 billion per year across the country, and more than £190 million in warehouses alone,” said Darren Riva, head of green financing of the EEF scheme. The scheme offers business finance for the acquisition of energy efficient equipment, and often highlights the problems companies have raising finance for energy efficient investment in today’s economic climate.
  • Weetabix has awarded European pallet pool operator LPR a four-year contract renewal to continue the transporting its products in excess of 850,000 pallet movements a year. The two companies have been working together since 2009, when LPR set up a pallet processing facility at Weetabix’s Burton Latimer depot, later investing £160,000 in the site in November 2011, to increase capacity.
  • Wincanton Records Management (WRM) has launched a new mobile shredding vehicle that will be sent out to the company’s clients’ business premises to shred confidential documents. WRM managing director, Jon Fowler, commented: “The increases in legislation such as The Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act of 2003, which aims to reduce identity theft, means that businesses are under increased pressure to ensure all confidential information is disposed of in a safe and secure manner.”
  • Gist has won a contract extension with UK producer of chilled, private-label seafood products, Macrae, which will see it increase the volumes it already manages, to include a number of the country’s major food retailers. The partnership sees Gist provide Macrae with a supply chain solution, with services such as the collection of seafood products from the production facility, and the transport of these goods under strict temperature controlled conditions.
