- Stobart Group has completed the sale of a 51 per cent stake in its transport and distribution business to DBay Advisors. William Stobart has become chief executive officer of Eddie Stobart Logistics, the new name for the transport and distribution business.
- A new logistics operation, Plus Logistics, has been launched by the network of hauliers behind Palletline. It will offer a range of contract logistics services including warehousing and storage, through the night, pick and pack, consolidation services right through to click and collect.
- Chilled food specialist NFT Distribution Operations has been acquired by private equity investor EmergeVest, for more than £60 million. The current management team at NFT will remain with the business and maintain a significant shareholding in the company.
- IDR Logistics has taken a 106,000 sq ft site close to the Port of Liverpool on a five year lease. IDR are expanding from their current facility in Bootle and saw this site as an ideal opportunity, with its proximity to the Port and the national motorway network.
- Amazon has started offering tours of its fulfilment centre to the public in the United States. Inviting customers to “Come see the magic that happens after you click buy on Amazon”, it is offering tours of a number of sites – each of which is up to one million sq ft and employs more than 1,000 people.
- Jaguar Land Rover has chosen UKWA member Gefco to manage the supply of large reusable Magnum Optimum containers to support its part production process. The development of the large containers will add to the existing pool of 6.4 million container units managed by Gefco’s GefBoxSystem solution. The deal spans UK and international markets, and will enable a number of environmental and operational efficiencies to be achieved.
- Costa has awarded UKWA member Howard Tenens a five year contract to handle the ingredients supply chain for its Costa Proud to Serve and Costa Express operations. Howard Tenens started working with Costa Express following a tender process in 2012 lead by supply chain manager Chris Clowes, who identified an opportunity to drive efficiencies through the supply chain.
