From September 2012 onwards, Jungheinrich are to start their own production of explosion-proof trucks. “After a period of about one year for the development, we are now able to supply ex-proof trucks first-hand“, says Riccardo Rieder, Head of the Competence Centre for explosion proofing at Jungheinrich. “The first step will be to produce Range 2 electric counterbalance trucks as an ex-proof version, if the customer so wishes”.
According to category 3G in the 94/9/EU (ATEX) regulation, these trucks produced in explosion-proof design are suitable for application in “ex-proof zone 2”. This is an area where during normal operation a dangerous explosive atmosphere can occur for a short period as a mixture of air and inflammable gases. Typical application areas are found for example in the chemical, pharmaceutical or cosmetics industries where solvents or aerosols are stored.
More trucks in ex-proof design will be available directly from the Lüneburg factory in the future. These will include Range 3 electric counterbalance trucks and Range 2 electric pedestrian pallet trucks.
Jungheinrich ranks among the world’s leading companies in the material handling equipment, warehousing and material flow engineering sectors. The company is an intralogistics service and solution provider with manufacturing operations, which offers its customers a comprehensive range of forklift trucks, shelving systems, services and advice. Jungheinrich shares are traded on all German stock exchanges.
