Jungheinrich AG in Hamburg and the Medicine Relief Organisation action medeor in Tönisvorst (North Rhine-Westphalia) signed a cooperation contract in spring 2012. The contract is the basis for various projects that support the emergency and catastrophe relief provided by action medeor, Europe’s largest Medicine Relief Organisation.
Jungheinrich supports the Medicine Relief Organisation action medeor within the scope of the cooperation agreement with intralogistics know-how and warehouse technology. For instance, a customs store was recently equipped in the medicament warehouse of the relief organisation in Tönisvorst. This made it possible for action medeor to despatch high quality non-EU goods to health stations all over the world. “We are very pleased to partner with Jungheinrich. We are now able to help and work even faster and more efficiently with our new trucks and racking”, says Bernd Pastors, Chairman of action medeor. The Medicine Relief Organisation sends out worldwide over 17,000 parcels with medicine and therapeutic food. Action medeor must therefore be able to rely on smooth running logistics for their work.
Jungheinrich employees donate the amount of cents in their pay package every month
For additional support on the financial side for the medication relief organisation, Jungheinrich started a so-called “spare cent“ action. Many employees donate the cents after the decimal point in their pay package every month. “These small amounts help a lot”, Bernd Pastors continues. “Only 40 Euro helps to disinfect 5,000 litre water. And 100 Euro ensure emergency supply of medication for 100 people.“
“The high participation in our “spare cent” action shows that sustainability starts with the employees of a company. We are supporting this action by doubling the donated amount at the end of every year”, says Hans-Georg Frey, Chairman of the Board of Jungheinrich AG.
Jungheinrich ranks among the world’s leading companies in the material handling equipment, warehousing and material flow engineering sectors. The company is an intralogistics service and solution provider with manufacturing operations, which offers its customers a comprehensive range of forklift trucks, shelving systems, services and advice. Jungheinrich shares are traded on all German stock exchanges.
The German medical aid organization action medeor e.V. was established in 1964 in order to supply people in need in developing countries with basic drugs and medical equipment. Today, action medeor is the largest European medical aid organization and works with local partners to supply approximately 10,000 health stations with pharmaceuticals and medical equipment in 140 countries.
