The 10th National Fork Lift Truck Safety Conference will take place at Warwick University on Wednesday 26th September 2012. This year the Conference will concentrate on providing practical solutions to everyday problems – helping all users of fork lift trucks to operate more safely.
The annual event, which takes place during National Fork Lift Safety Week, provides an exceptionally cost-effective way of keeping up to date with the industry’s best practice.
Topics covered will include:
· Current issues.
· Training.
· Loading and unloading areas.
· Speeding.
· Operator risk assessment.
· Safety products.
Andy Cuerden, European Managing Director at Interactive Driving Systems, expressed his delight at being invited to speak at the conference for the fourth time in recent years, and described the company’s contribution to the conference as follows:
‘We are presenting a case study focusing on operator risk assessment. McCain Foods (GB) Ltd rolled out Virtual Risk Manager – Fork Lift Truck and a number of other safety initiatives. The aim was to use VRM-FLT for the risk assessment, monitoring and improvement of their existing operators. The program has proved successful in several ways, with at-risk operators being identified and engaged in training and other interventions.
The case explains why McCain embarked on the project. It considers the attitude of managers and operators and provides details of how the project was conducted. The results provide an indication of the improvements that were achieved. For example, although other factors may be involved, the last year has seen a reduction in fork lift truck damage of 7.5%. The commitment shown to safety by McCain was recognised at the FLTA Awards 2012, receiving the coveted Safe Site Award. Other cases, such as Nestlé, will also be drawn upon.’
