New technology brings efficiencies and secures new business
Johnston Logistics, Fleet Transport Irish Haulier of the Year 2011, is one of Ireland’s leading logistics companies has signed a €100,000 contract with Heavey RF for the installation of its third generation rugged mobile computers in its warehouse and second generation of Wide Area Network (WAN) computers across its transport fleet. This technology will enable Johnston Logistics to provide instant information to customers and eliminate paperwork across its entire business.
“Productivity, efficiency and customer service have all been improved with the new system. In addition, we have won new business based on the fact that we have installed this technology – a real return on investment for us,” said Carl Johnston (IT Manager, Johnston Logistics).
“Johnston Logistics has substantially improved processes and improved utilisation within its transport business using the Psion IKON and EP10 devices. Fully integrating voice and data communications eliminates the need for multiple devices – reducing capital expenditures as well as support costs,” said Ronan Clinton (Chief Executive, Heavey RF). “As a result of the partnership approach we take with our customers, we were able to quickly optimise Johnston Logistics’ distribution activities. Intimately understanding the demands generated by its customers’ processes provided us with the insight necessary to select the best blend of technology.”
Johnston Logistics selected Heavey RF because of its superior product, industry expertise and flexible solutions to customer specific challenges. “Not only has the new system surpassed all our expectations but the 24/7 customer service support from Heavey RF has been an added bonus and offers enormous peace of mind,” said Carl Johnston.
Johnston Logistics is currently undertaking development work with Heavey RF through the end of this year for the implementation of voice-directed applications across its warehouses.
“We have a number of upcoming contracts where voice will drive the efficiencies and productivity necessary for success. We know from experience that in working with Heavey RF we will develop an application that is the right fit,” added Carl Johnston.
