Aug 15, 2014 Warehousing Ireland Materials Handling, News Comments Off on Foundation Stone Laid for Jungheinrich’s New Corporate HQ
Construction of Jungheinrich’s new corporate headquarters at the company’s traditional domicile at Friedrich-Ebert-Damm 129 in Hamburg-Wandsbek is making rapid progress. A celebratory event was held on Friday, August 15, 2014 to lay the foundation stone in the presence of representatives of the City of Hamburg, the architect’s office, the construction companies, Jungheinrich’s family shareholders, and the Board of Management of Jungheinrich AG.
“The new building is a strong tribute to Hamburg-Wandsbek—the domicile of our company which is steeped in tradition. More than 500 of our employees work here. We are creating a modern, attractive work environment for them—and their numbers are sure to have risen by the time the building is occupied in the spring of 2016. This is where we will have the best prerequisites for networked thinking, rapid communication as well as flexible and project-centric work. These preconditions are important with respect to our company’s ambitious growth plans,” says Hans-Georg Frey, Chairman of the Board of Management of Jungheinrich AG.
The blueprint for the new head office was penned by Hamburg architects Prof. Klaus Sill & Associates. The five-storey building will have a gross floor space of over 18,000 square metres and be erected to the standards of the DGNB Silver certificate issued by the German Sustainable Building Council, satisfying extremely stringent environmental and sustainability requirements. The building has an aggregate capex budget of approximately 25 million euros. Jungheinrich AG is the principal, and construction will be carried out by Georgsmarienhütte-based MBN Bau AG, acting as main contractor. Covering a total of 14,000 square metres at Friedrich-Ebert-Damm, the premises also have sufficient room for future building expansions.
Since the spring of 2007, Jungheinrich has been using Am Stadtrand 35, a rented office building directly adjacent to the company’s “old” and “new” domicile, as its corporate headquarters. From 1958 to 1995, the Jungheinrich plot at Friedrich-Ebert-Damm was home to the company’s production operations and head office, and from 1996 until its demolition in 2007, it continued to serve as Jungheinrich’s corporate headquarters.
