Cargotec is introducing the ASC+ model of Kalmar automated stacking crane at TOC Europe exhibition, held in Antwerp, Belgium, on 12-14 June 2012. The new ASC+ is the first of a new range that emphasises modularity throughout the design, ensuring a seamless match with any terminal and allowing for customisation to application requirements and today’s challenges.
“From our experiences of more than 20 years of automation projects and even longer with large port cranes, we set out to integrate modularity into the design. Pre-made cabling and factory-tested subsystems allow factory acceptance of the full crane to be conducted on-site, simplifying the shipping in the process and reducing costs and lead time. The design also focuses on efficient erection on the site, allowing most erection work to be done on ground level”, says Marko Hopeaharju, ASC Product Manager at Cargotec.
The Kalmar ASC+ features optimal stiffness in the portal and rope reeving systems, which simplifies the design and hence the maintenance and precautions required. The platform supports use of multiple main component suppliers and also is adaptable to local requirements.
The crane design is optimised to reach better performance with reduced weight of the crane and the spreader, thereby reducing energy use and life-cycle costs. The Kalmar ASC+ also features intelligent idle-time management and regeneration of energy during lowering and braking. Market-leading performance gives the user high operation speeds for gantry (up to 300 m/min), trolley (up to 90 m/min), and hoisting (up to 120 m/min) operations.
The ASC+ is part of Cargotec’s extensive range of process and equipment automation products. Recognising automation as a key trend in the container industry, Cargotec constantly strives to provide automation solutions for all aspects and types of terminal operations. Cargotec and Navis have joined forces to apply their process automation experience with the Kalmar automated equipment, to develop the Cargotec SmartPort solution – a broad palette of automation options for terminal operators. Cargotec SmartPort is being introduced to the global audience at TOC Europe.
