Oct 31, 2016 Warehousing Ireland Health and Safety, News Comments Off on Award-nominated safety DVD in FLTA store
A new hard-hitting fork lift training video aimed at all members of staff who work on or around fork lift trucks is now available in the FLTA store.
Created by the FLTA’s Safetember safety partner, Mentor Training, Safely Working with Lift Trucks is designed to reduce the risk of accidents by highlighting key hazards and dangers on lift truck sites for both operators and workers on foot.
This unique approach has been welcomed by the FLTA because it aims to address HSE accident statistics which reveal that 57% of all workers injured by fork lift trucks were pedestrians rather than operators.
Peter Harvey, FLTA chief executive, commented: “Despite being the group most at risk of a serious fork lift truck injury, warehouse operatives, office staff and other pedestrians on-site are often neglected when it comes to fork lift safety training, yet they spend their working lives alongside the most dangerous form of workplace transport in the country.
“Combining these two sets of workers – fork lift truck operators and those working on foot around them – in one training session is proving to be a very positive step forward.
“Not only does it start a very important conversation between these two groups, it also reminds everyone of the very real dangers posed by unsafe behaviour. In our view, safety is the responsibility of every individual on a site.
“The Association focused on this message high during this year’s Safetember campaign and is working tirelessly to drive down the number of life-changing injuries. This DVD will play a very significant role in that endeavour.”
Safely Working with Lift Trucks can be used as a resource for staff training, toolbox talks and staff inductions. It challenges unsafe behaviour by using high impact accident footage, dramatization, film and graphics to remind viewers of the very real physical and financial consequences of fork lift truck accidents.
