Oct 21, 2023 Warehousing Ireland Case Study, News, Storage, Warehousing Comments Off on Algeco goes electric to secure sustainable materials handling solution powered by Hoppecke batteries
By switching to the latest electric forklifts powered by Hoppecke batteries, a specialist in portable and modular buildings has secured a sustainable materials handling solution across its 30 UK sites.
Algeco, part of the Modulaire Group, required a solution that would align with its environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategy. Although the main challenge was to mitigate environmental impact, the business faced high running costs and downtime issues with a non-standard fleet comprising more than 100 IC engine trucks.
Hoppecke partnered with Algeco’s preferred supplier, materials handling specialist BJB Lift Trucks, to achieve a cost-effective, sustainable solution.
Hoppecke’s package incorporates trak uplift air batteries and tailored service support from its own engineers. As well as meeting key operational objectives, the comprehensive energy solution is set to deliver significant energy savings and help Algeco to reduce its carbon footprint.
All batteries have been fitted with Hoppecke’s trak collect advance battery monitor, which records battery draw, temperature and electrolyte level and reports to a live online platform where authorised personnel can view the data.
Gus Whyte, sales director UK and Ireland at Hoppecke Industrial Batteries, said: “We’re delighted to partner with BJB Lift Trucks to help Algeco achieve its aims.
“By taking the time to fully understand Algeco’s set up we were able to target battery capacity and technology that will deliver trouble-free operation. Deploying the battery controller not only enhances operational safety and promotes increased productivity, but also provides valuable truck performance data to help drive future efficiencies.”
Following a thorough investigation into carbon neutrality and a market review, Logisnext TCM, Kalmar Cartogec and Combilift were contracted to supply electric materials handling equipment. In determining how to power the fleet, BJB Lift Trucks approached several providers and assessed hydrogen cell technology as well as lithium-ion and traditional lead acid battery technology before choosing Hoppecke as its energy partner.
