Skills for Logistics, Milton Keynes, June 2012. Delivering your future is an exciting new online resource which aims to get young people thinking about the logistics sector, and to learn about the exciting jobs and varied careers on offer.
Launched by Skills for Logistics with funding from the trustees of the Road Haulage and Distribution Training Council, the website at www.deliveringyourfuture.co.uk is tailored to an audience of 11-19 year olds across the UK but offers valuable information about one of the UK’s most exciting sectors for all young people considering their future career.
Backed by key players in the industry, www.deliveringyourfuture.co.uk was designed with the involvement of young people, and in close consultation with teachers, careers advisors and industry stakeholders, to ensure that it is packed full of information showing the impact logistics has on our lives.
A host of interactive features include a new game ‘Articulated Monkeys,’ video case studies and lifestyle pages on shopping, driving and celebrities which put logistics in a context that teenagers can understand.
Dozens of businesses, career stories and job profiles are featured, promoting opportunities from shop floor to director level in the sector – across driving, postal services, removals, warehousing and wholesaling, as well as air, sea and rail freight.
Helen Parker, DHL UK Foundation Manager, said: “This website clearly demonstrates how fulfilling a career in logistics can be. The site features many case studies of young people who are achieving great things in the sector, as well as people who have actually progressed through the industry to show just what is possible.
“We would encourage logistics businesses across the UK to support this exciting new website which is promoting logistics as a vibrant career choice for young people, and can help to recruit a new generation of employees.”
You can play your part simply by linking your own site to www.deliveringyourfuture.co.uk or by spreading the word among your colleagues and networks. We also need new stories from companies and individuals working in logistics who can inspire young people. If you think you can help, please email us at info@deliveringyourfuture.co.uk.
Alternatively, keep in touch with Delivering your future by signing up to our newsletter or following us on Twitter at www.twitter.com/deliverfuture. We would also like logistics companies and stakeholders to ‘like us’ on Facebook and share some of the website’s content on their own Facebook pages.
Theo de Pencier, FTA’s Chief Executive added: “Delivering your future is the kind of website the Logistics Industry has been calling out for. The Logistics Industry must communicate better with young people if we are to attract them and gain from their talent. I would encourage companies in our sector to put their weight and support behind this excellent initiative so that more young people make logistics their career choice.”
This new careers website is a product of the Delivering your future programme, which is managed by SfL and funded by the trustees of the Road Haulage and Distribution Training Council.
