The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) plays a pivotal role in workplace transport safety standards, which is why RTITB are delighted to announce that Jane Willis, leader of the HSE’s Cross-cutting Interventions Directorate will be attending this year’s Operator of the Year Grand Final as a special guest and will announce the champion at the post competition gala dinner.
With policy responsibilities including Workplace Transport, Jane works at the heart of issues relating to safety and standards in lift truck operation and is a big supporter of the competition. Commenting on the upcoming Grand Final, Jane said “Lift trucks continue to be a major cause of accidents and injuries in the workplace. The competition is a fantastic way of getting the message across about the most efficient and safest ways of operating the trucks.”
While the competition is intended to be an enjoyable event that showcases lift truck operator skills and draws attention to the importance and benefit of correct training , Jane was quick to point out the important part each competitor plays as a role model. “The skill levels demonstrated by the competitors are amazing as they tackle ‘fun’ tasks that really test their abilities and their nerves. All the finalists are champions; they demonstrate the importance of training and development in building expertise and are excellent role models for FLT operators generally. I wish them every success on the day.”
The Grand Final of the competition, sponsored by Toyota Material Handling UK, TNT Express Services UK and Ireland, and Calor Gas takes place on the 20th September 2013 at RTITB’s headquarters in Telford and will see 10 finalists put through their paces in a bid to be crowned the RTITB Operator of the Year 2013 with the first prize being a brand new car! The event is open to the public and is free to attend; please register to attend at www.opofyear.com(places are limited and will be allocatedon a first-come-first-served basis).
